TranspoTalk Exclusive: Maximizing Transitway Investment: Lessons from Minneapolis-St. Paul
It is no secret that transit systems depend on dense hubs and corridors. It is more challenging to understand how to generate that density where it doesn’t currently exist, and put in place the incentives to achieve greater transit access for all.

Join us for a Transpo Talk Exclusive to unpack the challenge of creating activity nodes adjacent transit stations. Professor Yingling Fan of the Humphrey School of Urban Planning, and Professor Andrew Owen, of the Center of Transportation Studies will shed light on the types of incentives that are needed for also achieving greater transit access. TOD expert Lucy Galbraith will discuss the ways Minneapolis-St. Paul has made progress to date, as well as the process for implementing the findings of the researchers. Steve Elkins will speak to the legislative role in creating opportunities and incentives.

What you will learn:
• Successful strategies for incentivizing affordable housing growth along transit corridors.
• Why job clusters along transitways have a greater impact on accessibility than housing.
• What incentive programs work for generating jobs and housing along corridors.
• The legislative process for creating incentives.
